1. EXIT, Serbia
This festival that has won the most prestigious festival awards, started out as just a small gathering by the local bands in 2000 as a sign of protest against the government. Democracy has come a long ways in Serbia since then, but social awareness remains one of the major aspects of the festival.Another unique feature is EXIT’s location. It is held at Petrovaradin Fortress on the bank of the river Danube, one of the biggest and most beautiful medieval fortresses in Europe.
The festival has hosted numerous big stars on its six stages with different themes. Main Stage is the biggest stage with headliners such as The Prodigy, Snoop Dogg, Placebo, while other stages include Dance Arena that is reserved for DJs like David Guetta, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, and four other smaller stages. The amazing acoustics of the fortress allow for the concerts to take place right next to each other without any sound interference. The festival welcomes visitors from all over the world and it’s expanding by the year.
